A whale of a tale...

I present you with a knitted humpback whale. (One of my prouder moments in knitting life.)

Barnacles, bumps, and a sweet little eyeball.

Contour shading is a must.

Tail!

Christine took these pictures after the whale traveled (dry land!!!) back to Spokane.  It's obvious that humpback whales are rather large mammals, and this knit-creation is no different.  Maybe Christine could give me some stats on the measurements.  I almost didn't finish this in time for her birthday--true story. In fact, I gave it to her before it was finished and then knit the last tail flipper while Christine, Nick, and mother played Boggle for an hour and a half.  I'm just pleased that I finished it.  My only regret is not having the time to do a little whale photo shoot before it swam off.  Oh well!

Details on the pattern can be found on Ravelry here.
It's a free Ravlery download, so you should definitely check it out.

If you're in the need for more whale inspiration, do not hesitate to check out these dandy youtubes.
I know I have!
