Made & Found: Structured Alpaca Cowl

With all the cowl making Catherine has been doing this past year, I finally got motivated to knit one for myself. Take forever, right? I buy nice yarn with every intention of making something, but then I let the skeins sit on my dresser for weeks. Ok, months. Catherine finally gave up asking me if I had started the hat I was supposed to be working on in October. I think because I flipped it and used the hat yarn for my cowl...

Peanut & Purls and new knits

Do you remember at the end of December when I blogged about Brooklyn Tweed's Winter Look Book? There was that one resplendent sweater called Alloy. I caved and bought some knitpicks yarn. I really wanted to get Brooklyn Tweed yarn (remember Truffle Hunt?), but it would be a $150 sweater, and I want to make sure I love the pattern first.

Peanut & Purls & some finished holiday knits!

I hate to admit it, but I haven't finished with my holiday knits quite yet. I did manage to finish this simple, yet classic, scarf for one of my favorite people, Pat!

Brooklyn Tweed has their new 2014 Winter Look Book out. I've blogged about how swoon-worthy BT is and especially Jared Flood, their mastermind (read about that here, here, and here).

Peanut & Purls: 2013 Year in Review

Bo Peep scarf

The New Year kind of snuck up on me. Believe me, I wanted this year to be over with since the minute it started. 2013 was a giant sucker punched to the face. I thought it might be nice to take a couple minutes and  reflect on all the things I knit last year. Want to check them out too? 'Course you do!

Peanut & Purls and Christmas Knits

First off, I hope everyone had a lovely Christmas and HAPPY NEW YEAR! While I haven't quite finished the Battlestar Galactica socks (sorry mom, I'm well into the second sock), I did manage to whip up this seed stitch cowl for my dear friend Lindsey!

Peanut & Purls: Last Minute Christmas Presents

Christmas is way too close now. I thought I was ready. I was even getting smug about it. That is, I was getting all smug about it until I decided to throw in another hand knit present. Now what the hell am I going to do?

Peanut & Purls: (Battlestar Galactitca) Sock update

It feels like the last week of my life has been solely dedicated to these socks. Well...I guess just singular, sock, since I haven't finished one, let alone started on the second. The first sock always takes longer to knit. Right?

Peanut & Purls & Battlestar Galactica Socks...?

Yeah you heard me right. Battlestar Galactica socks. I have never seen an episode of BG, but I think Monika and Ben have seen enough so that I don't have to. They even became friends with one of the actors from BG (it was a chance friendship, founded in a bar in Burbank), but not knowing anything about the show, I can't even tell you who they're friends with! For shame!

Peanut & Purls and Song of the Sea

Naturally when I hear "Song of the Sea" I can't help but think of Little Mermaid. This isn't really a bad thing, except that this cowl doesn't resemble the Little Mermaid in any way. It's still nice and textured...

Made and found: Knit Wish List

If you ever read the blog, you'll know that I'm a knitter. I enjoy knitting (mostly)--it's relaxing, productive, and I really love to be able to say, "yeah...what?...I made this....ugh!" That being said, I sometimes get serious knitter envy. I look around online and see all these amazing knits and my inner monologue starts up, "ummmmm self, why don't you ever knit things like this?!?" This post is dedicated to my knit wish list. Check it!

Top 5: Knitted Projects from The Purl Bee

Catherine's seed and moss stitch cowls.

Truly, Catherine is the knitting-est of the sisters. I mean, Monika and I are adept knitters, but Catherine is the one who puts in the most time and has the greatest ambitions. She's made actual clothes! Like if the apocalypse came tomorrow and the internet disappeared, she would still know how to make socks and sweaters. Inconceivable! So, even though I realize her knowledge is far greater than mine (a fact made quite clear to me through Catherine's eye-rolls every time I admit to forgetting how to SSK), once autumn arrives all bets are off. I'm overtaken by the feeling that I should have a knitting project in my lap every time I sit down, and I start hunting around for yarn and potential knitted projects...

Peanut & Purls & Herringbone Knits!

I've been a knitter for a number of years now, however, I've never attempted the herringbone stitch. Not because it seemed too daunting or anything, but I never really thought about there being a herringbone stitch. I mean really, who knew!?!

Made & Found: Woodsy Knitting

I finally finished my Brooklyn Tweed Guernsey Wrap. I know I'm going to get a lot of use out of this wrap. The yarn is called meteorite (swoon). All of Brooklyn Tweed's yarn is magical, I've blogged about them before. I think what makes it so special is all the little color flecks that come together to create such dynamic color blends--they definitely add dimension. Five skeins of meteorite later, and my snazzy Guernsey Wrap is complete. Also just typing Guernsey makes me want to live on a farm. Who doesn't want to become friends with a Guernsey cow?

Peanut & purls and more cowls...

I know what you're thinking. Um...didn't you just post this exact same cowl? Psssshaawww! As if. I posted a totally different cowl. I recently finished knitting (and blogging) about a new seed stitch cowl. This, however, is a moss stitch cowl. Totes different. Don't believe me? I have evidence...

Peanut & Purls and head colds...

I have a raging head cold. The kind of head cold that prohibits you from feeling like a normal person of completing everyday tasks like walking, moving, and breathing. I tried to get some knitting done while I lounged, but even that proved too much at times. These pictures were taken this weekend before I felt really gross.

Peanut and Purls and Jared Flood

I've blogged about it once (read: three times) and I'll blog about it again. I freaking love Jared Flood and thereby I love Brooklyn Tweed (and vice versa).

Peanut and Purls and Seed Stitched Cowls

I finished the seed stitch cowl I was working on last week. I didn't really use any specific pattern, just cast on some stitches and knit away.

Peanut & Purls: Knitting Roundup!

Greetings fellow knitters! I haven't had time to knit much lately, but I've still been spending time perusing Ravelry to find creations to add to my queue. I love the gray sweater from Purl Bee...nice and simple and classic. I always like the look of the chunky cowls, but I've never made one. I like the lavender shade of the cowl above. And this heart socks are just plain precious!

Peanut & Purls: Wheat baby booties

Disclaimer: there won't be any Peanut in this post because I, Christine, am taking it over this week. Catherine is working a few wretched fourteen hours days as the legislative session draws to a close, and I volunteered to step in with a little knitting post. Such a nice sister!

I made these wheat booties for my dear friend Abbie, who added a charming lad to her family this February. Little Ralph! I haven't had the pleasure of meeting him yet, but soon enough I shall make his acquaintance, whereupon I plan to cuddle him mercilessly...
