Where, oh, where...

has the day gone? Oh yes, I remember. It's gone into watching season three of Parks and Recreation and cuddling with Matilda on our new favorite knitted blanket. So, maybe I've been totally slacking today. Maybe I haven't really done much of anything. So what? It's been an awesome day of sitting on my bed and eating linguine with mushrooms and goat cheese, looking at magazines, forcing Matilda to bat at the drawstring from a hoodie, and messing around with craft projects. I didn't run any errands. I didn't even get the mail. It was perfect.

I did make this headband.

And here's a little bit of Parks & Rec for you to enjoy.

What a lovely lazy day.

Sandwich Day!

Have you ever woken up one morning with the knowledge that a sandwich lay in your near future? Yes, I'm talking about sandwich destiny and I'm currently living it. Chicken and Gouda on wheat from the Huckleberry's deli.

What's better than eating a delicious sandwich? Eating a delicious sandwich while watching a television program that features sandwiches. So, I'm going to make this sandwich a part of me while watching a very special episode of 30 Rock: "Sandwich Day". Even if you don't have a sandwich of your very own, you should still get on Hulu or Netflix and watch some 30 Rock while eating something roughly comparable to (but never quite as great as) a sandwich.

A visit from the Nielsens.

I'm seriously a little giddy about this Nielson business. And not just because they sent me $30 cash money. The tv diary has a retro television set on the cover.

And look at this chart action. I'm pretty impressed.

Give me the damn remote. I'm ready to marathon.

This could maybe happen.

Yeah, I skipped a day. I was totally on top of it for a week or so...all down the drain. I blame The West Wing. OK, not really. I could never blame The West Wing. What I'm blaming is my tendency to get so caught up in things like The West Wing that the line between reality and stellar prime-time drama on dvd starts to blur. I've caught myself sitting at work worrying about the people and situations on the show. That's not good. I don't, for instance, worry about President Obama's Deputy Chief of Staff (Mona Sutphen...wait. He has two. Jim Messina is the other one. {Deputy Chiefs of Staff then.} Of course, I had to look them up.) and that's real. Josh Lymon, on the other hand, merits a pretty decent chunk of my time.

This predicament is similar to what happens after I've watched a couple zombie movies. I start thinking something along the lines of: this could maybe happen. And perhaps more important: where would I hide (and what weapons would I bring with me?) when the worldwide zombie event occurs? I admit that something is not quite right there. It's some weird holdover from my pre-teen mini-obsession, which covered the same ground--except instead of zombies it was dinosaurs. And then there are the dreams. Dinosaurs coming to get me, zombies coming to get me, people from The West Wing facing tough moral decisions.

Boy, I am saying a lot of things.

My original point was going to be that I did not watch The West Wing tonight. I tidied up a bit--found a home (sort of) for the last five stacks of books in the middle of the living room, the moose painting, the globe I bought at the defunct convent, the slightly wilting peace lily, and the massive picnic basket (now holding various knit and embroidery projects!). I also did a little dusting. Does that sound braggy? I don't mean to sound braggy.

Let me tell you this: I didn't do the dishes.

The moose was painted here in Spokane, sometime in the mid-1930s.
I found it at a Goodwill in Tacoma: $20.00 Worth it.

Mom gave me the lamb--it makes noise, much to Matilda's delight.

A whole convent of nuns probably used this globe.

I think some dinner is in order. And maybe an episode (or two? I have no will power.) of the The West Wing. Once I've made it through the remaining 2.5 seasons this will, I believe, cease to be such a problem.

Welcome back.

Tonight is a night for listening to Cake (Prolonging the Magic), drinking a beer or two, and writing Halloween cards. Yes, I'm back in the saddle again, or on the wagon (I may not be using that quite right), or any other vaguely pioneer-ish idiom that might fit this situation. It was a Green Lakes Organic Ale--the first alcoholic drink of any kind since that weekend at Abbie's. That weekend.

Thank you, I know.

It's also a good night for eating chocolate pretzels and knitting...and maybe watching The West Wing. Let's upgrade that to definitely watching The West Wing.

I should also tell you that I received a call from the Nielsen television rating people tonight, and I'm going to participate in one of their surveys. I hope my current tv viewing habits (Masterpiece Theatre; The Daily Show; Project Runway; 30 Rock; and anything science, nature, or history) are powerful enough to counteract everyone who might be watching Teen Mom (or whatever that show's called {I see it on every magazine in the grocery store.}).

P.S. They're giving me $30. In your face, Catherine.
