If Napoleon if I told him if I told him if Napoleon.

What I should be doing tonight is working on a seriously overdue project and watching my Napoleon miniseries (John Malkovich as Talleyrand!), but that seems like such an assignment. I mean, I love projects, and I love Napoleon (He was made a general at 26!), but I've had those dvds from Netflix for like two weeks and haven't watched them yet. Too much pressure!

I mean, I know Josephine's real name was Rose (It was changed by Napoleon because he didn't like Rose.), and I know that she was 32 to his 26 (the general-making age) and she had bad (I mean, bad) teeth. But there are so many other things I don't know. (I also know the thing Napoleon said in that letter to Josephine about not bathing because he was coming home soon--learned that in 9th grade {Who didn't?}. Dirty birds.)

So, yes, I'm excited to learn through the power of the miniseries, but it's like seven hours long. That's a pretty big commitment for me.

In the meantime, I've spent my evening watching Bonnie and Clyde (excellent, in case you're wondering), marvelling at Warren Beatty's wonderfully unkempt hair (and unsettling laugh) and everything about Faye Dunaway. Oh! Also, Estelle Parsons plays Buck Barrow's wife, Blanche. Who is Estelle Parsons? Only Roseanne and Jackie's mother, Bev, from Roseanne! It took me a couple minutes to realize. I had to talk myself through--grating, dissatisfied yet superior voice--and then I had to have a moment of silence while I filtered through all the television mothers I could recall (because I knew enough to know that it was a mother voice). It was an exciting moment. I thought about calling someone.

I've also been doing a little bit of kick-back drinking. No biggie, but it did directly contribute to this next thing: me reading old myspace blogs and cracking up. Like this little gem from an October 2005 conversion with Catherine:

Her: "I've limited myself to drinking coffee on social outings only."
Me: "You're a social drinker?"
Her: "Yes, and this is social."
Me: "No, this is anti-social. Just because we're being anti-social together--"
Her: "Two wrongs don't make a right, but two negatives do make a positive...that's math."
Me: "Hah, we're two negatives."

Maybe it's just my current state, but that is hilarious.

I found this crab claw while walking along the lake in Milwaukee last summer.
I was thinking about it today. Poor little crabbin. (I know that isn't a word.)

Who comes first. Napoleon the first.

Let's get tight.

It's the end of the week, and I have a nice little night of drinking ahead of me. Abbie, brace yourself for at least two texts positively brimming with nostalgia and nonsense! Maybe you'll even get a drunk postcard or two out of it. Hey, that goes out to all of you. Do I have your addresses? You better hope so. Psssttt...it's already begun.

I always use my Oregon old-fashioned for rum.

While gin and tonics always go in the derrick glass. Is this tall enough to be
considered a highball? Perhaps. But I can't give you a definitive answer at the moment.

I hope everyone out there is way ahead of me. My hair already feels like I Dream of Jeannie. You don't know what that means? I don't either, but it feels right right now. Cheers!

I did not wake up this morning feeling like P. Diddy

I had twenty olives yesterday.  Twenty m-fing olives!  Towards the end of the night no one told me, "Catherine, you smell like booze." Nick did say, "you smell like olives." I'm getting ahead of myself.
Nick and I spent the weekend in Seattle.  An overdue GNO happened on Saturday night.  Drinks were delicious, food was delicious, and the conversation...delicious. For whatever reason around 3:00, I decided to ditch the car I was riding in back to the hotel and walked back.  I was sure the hotel was closer than it was.  0.9 miles later at 3:17 a.m. I arrived at the hotel.  I think I got annoyed when Nick and Chase were talking about burgers and Trailer Park Boys.  I paid for my decision, my shoes gave my feet blisters and I suffered all day long.  I had too many martinis, too many cups of coffee, and not enough sleep.  I also dedicated a whopping 45 minutes to school work--something tells me I'm going to regret this decision tomorrow night.

Now that you're heard about the weekend, this is kind of how it looked:

(I recommend you think about Ke$ha's Blah Blah Blah while you look at these pictures...that's what I'm going to do).

I made this coffee cozy on Friday night for a swell gal (she doesn't know about it yet). I tried it out while heading North.

I bought this yarn in Seattle. Projects to come!

We stayed at The Monaco. It was nice.

I stuck to martinis the whole night...hence the 20 olives.  In my defense, these two martinis came with three olives, not the standard two.

Lights...

You can request a fish in your room at The Monaco. They have about 150 down in housekeeping, we asked.

I bought these tulips at Pike Place. The tulip lady told me that double-petal red tulips are the only tulips that have a scent! Yes, please!

Breakfast view from Nick's perspective.

Sock yarn from Tucson for Nick's socks.

Slow start.

Yarn ball.

My perspective. A lot of orange.
