A Washington-ing we shall go! Last weekend Ben and I headed up to Washington to visit Peanut… among other things...

I have been spending a lot of time walking with two little (not actually little) dogs, around our little neighborhood. Olive is holding on to our treasures, I am in love with pink jasmine and really want to plant a ton everywhere.

I have also been walking around outside of my Burbank neighborhood. For instance I drove down to Newport Beach and met up with Ben's sister Sammy. I had to walk much farther then I anticipated because there wasn't a lot of free parking, but at least I found a spot that allowed for me to have a be achy stroll along the boardwalk to get to my final destination.

Destination being Balboa Park (I think there are way too many places named Balboa this or that). This ferris wheel went way to fast to be safe. We did not go on this.

Luckily I wasn't gone too long, because there was someone waiting for me at home.

Olympia isn't always the most happening place...but if you seek it out, a Friday night can prove rather fun (as evidenced by Saturday morning's wrist)...

Because I'm still in the lovey dove spirit, I took a look back at my instagrams and these were some of my favorites…

All of my air plants are dying. I'm incredibly upset and a little baffled. I've had most of them for at least three years--three healthy years. The stalks above are from my last remaining survivor, but it's slowly whittling down to its bulb and is maybe 1/5 of its former size. Sigh. I'm so bummed. Why, Tacoma?! Why are you killing all my air plants?!

I made some major progress on my Lisa Frank oil paint this past week. I've finished the cats in a sneaker and have moved on to the classic sundae in space.

Lately I've noticed that when I get out of work in the evenings it's much lighter, and that makes me really, really, happy. I still do love my night time walks with Ben and the girls though. Wouldn't mind seeing a bit more in the stars department.

This week I found a dead thrush in the garden beneath the sour cherry tree, and now I have more dead bird pictures in my phone than perhaps anyone should. Well, anyone outside our family. For we sisters, I feel that the number of dead bird pictures in my phone is perfectly appropriate. For the record, this bird was very recently dead and had no discernible marks of attack, so Mom and I decided/hoped it was old age rather than a bird disease. Also for the record, a night creature stole the bird before I could begin the specimen collection process, but not before I poked it with a small stick...

"Ocean in view!" O! The joy!" Man on man do I love Lewis and Clark. I mean I loooovvvveeee Lewis and Clark. A few weeks ago some of the Nicolai clan took a nice little day trek down to Cape Disappointment. I'm just a little disappointed in myself that I didn't take the time to visit the actual market for William's famous declaration.

Even though Washington experienced nowhere near the cold snap the rest of the county endured, we did have a couple frosty mornings. Other than the possibility of icy roads, I enjoy a little frost. Everything looks incredibly magical when enveloped in a nimbus of ice crystals, don't you think?

Oh the holidays are over, and now we're just left with memories. Before I went home for Christmas Christine called and asked what kind of christmas cookies I wanted to request that they make. My answer cornflake wreath cookies!

Insta-sista: Kanye Edition

So I realized that I have been pretty light on the instagramming lately, but luckily I did see some action last night that is worth sharing... Yeezus!

Ben and I went to see Kanye don't in Anaheim last night and let me tell you the man can put on a show. Even though we were up in the stadium seating (which I didn't mind) the view and the spectacle was awesome.

Winter arrived in full force this week. Well, that might be an exaggeration. It's cold here and it snowed a little, but it's much colder and snowier in other parts of the country. I was able to collect supplies for a new foraged winter wreath, so we're totally fine. I had to assemble it in stages though, and I came inside every few minutes to thaw my fingers. What a rough life, right?

It's party time all the time at Disneyland, however we went recently and it was actually party time. They were filming on Main Street and a confetti bomb went off!

Check out these other confetti bombs... (there's really no more confetti in these pictures, but still you should read on)

I was in Mom's car this week and happened to notice this curse word cd title. I was thrown for a second...until, that is, I recalled making her a Rufus Wainwright mixtape titled Rufus, Bitches. No surprise it's one of Mom's faves and mine too...

Halloween was last Thursday, and the Halloween party I attended was a full week before that, but I can't stop thinking about my Ariel costume. Why is Halloween only once a year?!?! My mom's 1988 JAG Corps ball gown (that she sewed herself, thank you very much) was the PERFECT Ariel dress.

This edition of Monika's instagram wrap up is set in the Great Pacific Northwest. Where I got the chance to escape and hide out at Mom's house and get in some sister time...
